Lupus Together is dedicated to empowering Lupus warriors and individuals impacted by autoimmune diseases. Through advocacy, education, and compassionate support, we strive to create a united community that uplifts and improves the lives of those on their journey with Lupus.

Lupus Journey

LupUs Together was born from the personal journey of its founder, Sharifah Kee, a courageous Lupus survivor with a vision to make a difference. In 2023, after ten years of battling Lupus, Sharifah decided to transform her personal struggles into a powerful force for change. Fuelled by a passion to empower others facing similar challenges, she set out on a mission to create an organization that would uplift and support those impacted by Lupus and other autoimmune diseases.

Today, LupUs Together stands as a beacon of hope and unity, driven by their core values of advocacy, education, support, and community engagement.

What is Lupus ?

Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease where the immune system—normally your body’s defense against illness—mistakenly attacks healthy tissues and organs. This can lead to inflammation and damage in areas like the skin, joints, kidneys, heart, lungs, brain, and blood cells2.

There are several types of lupus, but the most common is Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) , which can affect multiple organ systems. Other forms include:

Cutaneous lupus , which affects the skin

Drug-induced lupus , triggered by certain medications

Neonatal lupus , a rare condition affecting infants born to mothers with lupus.

Common symptoms include:

Fatigue

Joint pain and swelling

A butterfly-shaped rash across the cheeks and nose

Sensitivity to sunlight

Fever

Hair loss

Chest pain and shortness of breath

Cognitive issues like memory loss or confusion2.

The exact cause of lupus isn’t fully understood, but it’s believed to result from a mix of genetic, hormonal, and environmental factors . Triggers can include infections, sunlight, and certain medications4.

While there’s no cure, treatments can help manage symptoms and reduce flare-ups. These may include anti-inflammatory drugs, immunosuppressants, and lifestyle adjustments like sun protection and stress management
